Migrating from Snow Leopard to Snow Leopard Server

I want to move from Snow Leopard to Snow Leopard Server but am unsure whether it can be installed like an upgrade (like installing 10.6 on a 10.5 machine) or if I need to
install it afresh and migrate all my data and software (a rather time-consuming process that I'd rather avoid). Espcially tricky since i have (naturally) updated 10.6.3 to 10.6.8, and the server version is 10.6.3.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I seem to recall when we did this same thing (ages ago), that the OSXS 10.6.3 installation was a complete installation, not an "upgrade" to or on top of OS X 10.6.8. It went smoothly for us (we wanted the mail server functionality, mostly).
